Artist on the Lookout: Colby Bell

With a soft Southern accent, stunning good looks, and a serious vocal range, Colby Bell was made for country music. Currently living in Nashville, Tennessee, Bell is trying to make her name known in the Hollywood of country music. Like many musicians, she made the move to Nashville after she graduated high school to pursue a career in music. Although she’s only written and recorded one song since she’s been in Nashville (with fellow songwriter Shannon Roschke), she plans to put a demo together in the near future.

Bell is not new to the music scene. Her father is a musician and has worked all over the Southeast recording and playing out. She attributes much of her talent to listening to him play piano and watching him onstage.

Bell got a chance to show off her own musical ability when she started singing in her Church’s choir. Her first big performance came when she sang the national anthem for the former Charlotte Hornets. Her performance was so good that afterwards, Hornets’ player David Wesley gave her a hug and commended her on her singing.

From there, Bell continued singing national anthems at amateur and professional sporting events and eventually started to regularly sit in with her father’s band, The Relics. Currently putting in 40-plus hour workweeks at a chic men and women’s boutique in Nashville, Bell is saving up for when she needs some capital to invest in her music. She would like to record an album, but she wants to make sure she does it right, she said.

“It’s totally something I’d like to work on down the road, but it takes a lot of money,” Bell said.

Until then, she’s stackin’.
